Question by Adam: Can I run Leopard OS on a custom cpu I am building with standard ddr2 memory?
The memory I plan to use is corsair xms2 4gb. Is there any other specs I should be concerned about considering the processor or the graphics card? Right now I plan to use an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor (2.8 Ghz) and an ASUS GeForce 9400 graphics card.

Leopard doesn’t run on anything but an Apple machine unless you have in-depth knowledge on how to hack it. So, if you have to ask the question, then the answer is clearly no, sorry!

Hi mummy,

I’m not entirely sure about the setup of card readers in PCs, what you could consider doing is going into My Computer and see if there is a removable disc, or an option of the memory card. Then just follow the folders. However, as i stated before i’m not entirely sure of the setup of them. Apologies if this hasnt helped.

Invalid memory type, bad install or faulty modules could be the reason. You cannot know for sure unless you see they are plugged in correctly and you’re sure they are the good model that is working well with your current motherboard.

Cos I know what Hard Drive capacity is. But what does memory size mean and whats the difference?

Hard drive = filing cabinet.
Memory = size of desk.

If you want to work, you have to take stuff out of your filing cabinet and put it on your desk. The more memory you have, the more stuff you can do at once without having to store stuff temporarily in the filing cabinet while you swap documents (if you had a small desk).

Hard drive sizes are measured in Gigabytes.
Memory sizes are measure in Megabytes.

1024MB = 1GB.

You don’t eject memory cards like you eject a CD, you simply pull them out. Some, such a SD cards, usually have to be pushed in a little, to release them, then pull it out.

Obviously, you need to make sure there is no activity when you pull it out. If it is being read or written to when you pull it out, it will ‘freak out’.

You can back it up onto CD’s.. but depending on how much memory used on your computer will dpend on how many disc’s you use. I use bullguard and that has a free 5 GB online back up.

Question by : Help pls….laptop memory issue…..?
I have laptop with C and D hard drives
C Drive is now showing only 2gb free memory from a 51 gb memory,
I usually save docs etc., onto USB, this apart i moved the balance of docs/pics/music onto D in a vain effort to gain more free disk space ( D drive has 33gb free out of 47 gb)

Looking at prev posts on memory issues, advice is to look to remove infrequently used programmes, but when add up the memory being used in Programmes, it only comes to 880MB. ( I would have to take it to a shop to get programmes removed as to what to remove without causing other issues)

Afraid i don’t know anything much about computers, presumeably i looking in the wrong place for the other “chunk” of memory that is being used.

Also despite the fact i am saving nothing to C Drive….the available disk space is still going down

Any idea what is going on and what happens when the C drive gets full ?? does the computer crash.
I have previously backed up everything to an external hard drive, albeit i havn’t done it for year or so (really need to do it…like now)

Help would be greatly appreciated. thank you

to EBOX…yes thank you, i did transfer the docs/pics to D drive and did delete them from C . ( There was only 5 or 6, as i usually save to stick). I have windows vista.

Hi,
this will free up all your free space on both C & D drives so that windows can then work correctly again, i would defrag your drives about once every three weeks and use CCleaner to clear the rubbish off about every week.

can you please do the following to sort ALL your problems :-
Download CCleaner, install it and then run it, this will safely delete all your temp files etc for you, then reboot back into safe mode again (press F8 as it boots up) and defrag your hard drive to get all your free space back again, I think your system is full of rubbish and just needs a good cleanup.
CCleaner will also clean your reg files correctly as well, but please remember to reboot between doing a disc cleanup and a reg cleanup.
Defaggler will defrag your drive quickly and cleanly.
This will help you, (I promise).

That will sort out your HDD problems.

Now please do this as well:-
From your start menu go start > run then type “chkdsk C:/F” windows will then ask you to reboot your system as your system boots past your BIOS screens it will check and fix any errors on your hard drives for you, then it will boot back into windows again.
This should fix all your problems for you (well I hope so).
This will free up all your free space on your HDD so windows can then work correctly again.

P.S.
Also please do a REG file cleanup as this is the most common cause of slow systems.

Your system is full of rubbish and just needs a good cleanup so windows will then run correctly again.

This is completely FREE, easy to do, and most importantly WORKS so why not try this first??

The task that the memory controllers perform in a computer is of immense importance. These are a kind a chip that is placed on the motherboard or in the CPU. The function of these memory controllers is to manage the data flow which comes in and goes out from the memory. Also these are very good for increasing the potentiality and performance of the system, stores the memory very well and safely by designing to carry newer technologies in memory.

The placement of the memory controller in the computers varies based on the model of the computer. Some PCs are designed to place it in the north bridge of the motherboard while some others have it on the CPU die. Those systems, which are designed to carry the memory controller in the mother board posses a different kind of physical socket and also the RAM used in these motherboard are of new designs

The main purposes of using the memory controller in the computer are to read and write the changes in the RAM and also to refresh it. This is done by the controller by sending current. Without entering much to the technical terms, it can in fact be said that the memory controller is really essential for running and securing the RAM successfully.

The memory controllers are of different types which can be named as the Double Data Rate, the Fully Buffered and the Dual Channel. The functions of these memory controllers are more or less different from each other. For instance, the Double Data Rate memory controllers are used to transfer the data depending on the rising and falling rate of the memory clock. Whereas in the Dual- channel memory, two memory controllers are used parallel to each other. This allows the PC to build up more channels, but in spite of it there is one difficulty that because of the heap of wires used, these can not be counted. This problem leads to complexity in adding new channels.

The Fully buffered memory controllers on the other hand are different from the other memory controllers. Here a serial data link is used to connect the motherboard and not like the earlier patterns of RAM. An advantage of this type of Fully buffered memory controller is that it decreases the number of wires used in the motherboard and makes use of this expense in the time consumed for this procedure.

Thus we can see that the memory controllers are very essential computer parts and are of several types used for several purposes. The prices of these memory cards ranges from very low to very high which depends on the type and functions provided by these.

is this normal?

i was checking the memory for my pc and its using 59% which is 1.85gb as i have 4gb of ram.

my cpu is running at 6%

The only programs i got open is firefox

I closed firefox and it still was the same

so i went into resource manager

and relised that svchost.exe was using 190,396 of commit KB

I turned of my internet and it was still the same

why is my memory being used when i havent got anything running

i checked my task manager and the only things that are running are the thing that should be
also my mouse keeps blinking alot, could it be something to do with the power suply as i heard one of the symptons of the power suply going to fail is a bliinking mouse, i checked my graphics card and updated everything
my computers 1 month old :/
