Dell introduced the Latitude Z business laptop, which includes a new wireless charging technology that could eventually find its way into other Dell systems, the company said on Tuesday.

The Latitude Z can be placed on a special stand that generates an electromagnetic field to recharge laptop batteries wirelessly. The technology, which Dell calls inductive charging, takes the same amount of time to recharge laptop batteries as an AC adapter, said Steve Belt [CQ], vice president of business client engineering at Dell.

“There’s a coil in the bottom of the notebook and then there’s a matching coil in the stand. You set them next to each other and it generates a current that flows and charges the battery,” Belt said.

This is the first time Dell has included wireless recharging in its laptops. The recharging stand must be purchased separately, however, as an optional extra. The technology could help reduce the dependency on power adapters traditionally used to recharge laptops.

Dell is also adding new hardware that will allow the laptop to boot quickly while giving it “always-on” capabilities similar to those in a smartphone. The laptop includes an Arm processor — a type of chip more often found in smartphones — to boot a laptop quickly for fast access to commonly used Web applications like e-mail and a Web browser. The processor is included alongside an Intel processor, which is used to run the Windows OS.

The laptop is a vehicle to demonstrate some of the latest mobility features Dell could ultimately put in more of its business laptops, Belt said. Inclusion of some of those features in further laptops will depend on how the market responds to the technologies, Belt said.

Wireless charging is already being used in some consumer electronics like mobile phones. The Latitude Z has a 16-inch screen, weighs 4.5 pounds (2 kilograms) and measures one inch at its thinnest point. It runs on Intel’s Core 2 Duo low-voltage dual-core chips at speeds of 1.4GHz to 1.6GHz. The laptop supports up to 4GB of RAM and 512GB of storage through two solid-state drives. Get a power supply tester and check the power supply. If it is bad, I would start looking at environmental conditions (i.e. quality of AC power, temperature, dust, etc). If the supply tests good then start looking at the motherboard as the culprit. I would really be looking at the quality of the AC power getting to the system especially after this being the third power supply. You may want to have a qualified electrician look at the electrical circuit that your computer is plugged into and make sure it is providing voltage and current in the correct range. Good Luck.

Back then, laptop computers were pretty big and bulky, with poor screen resolution. They were considerably more expensive than they are now and to top it all, the battery life was poor at best.

My new Dell 17 inch notebook is everything that my old laptop was not. It is sleek, low-profile, contains hours of battery life, and now comes with a high-resolution lcd screen that is just simply a joy to behold.

I had put off buying a new 17 inch notebook for quite a while. I have always found the process of buying a new computer agonizing. No matter how long you wait, the very following week after you’ve made your purchase on whatever system you have chosen, out comes something cheaper, more powerful, at a lower price and with a better warranty! It is enough to drive you completely crazy.

I knew that the convenience of a new laptop computer was going to be worth it no matter what, and eventually I got and bought myself the new 17 inch notebook. And I am glad that I did. There is nothing that beats having your own laptop computer, especially a fully configured one at that.

The best thing about my new 17 inch notebook is how easy it makes working on-the-go seem. It is no burden at all, because of its light weight, and though I occasionally worry about having it stolen, or accidentally damaged, so far no harm has come to my computer. I really want a laptop but theres so many different reviews out there about each brand its so hard to choose! I guess every brand has its problems but which has the least! I preferably want a laptop with at least 3GB memory and 250MB hard drive!

You need to set up a signal decoder, etc. The equipment to do this will be more expensive than a new monitor unless your tv has a vga output. There are second hand tvs out there with this facility.
