Once the computer is powered up,the first job is to check whether all the components of the computer are properly working or not. This job is done by BIOS through a series of tests known as Power On Self Test(POST in short form). POST is carried out by BIOS which resides on the computer motherboard. The primary objective of POST is to provide diagnostic information about the computer to the user.

Sequence Of POST

When the computer is switched on, BIOS is activated first. BIOS is a hard coded program,embedded on the motherboard,which boots up the computer. It also store the hardware configuration data. Every-time the computer is powered up, BIOS loads the configuration data in the main memory first and then executes POST.

Computer components checked by POST

POST checks the health of all computer components. Some of very crucial components are checked first. Generally power supply, BIOS, memory, heating and cooling,hardware tests are executed in the mentioned order. Hardware tests include keyboard,monitor,mouse,printer and scanner testing.

Detailed operation of POST

When the CPU is reset, BIOS starts POST execution. Code execution starts from reset vector. In the case of cold boot, the POST is executed from flash memory,while in the case of warm boot, POST is executed from RAM. The first job of POST is to confirm the integrity of BIOS code itself. Once the BIOS code is verified, it finds the size of system memory and runs a memory test on system memory. After that, system buses are detected,tested and then initialized. If any other system BIOS is present then control is passed to it. POST provides an user interface to system configuration. It detects,organizes and initializes all devices which are present during booting. It also constructs system environment which is required by the target OS.

Diagnostic Information

Once the POST execution is over, the result is produced to the user. Basically there are two types of diagnostic information, namely- POST Codes, Beep Codes. POST codes generate a visual symbol of two characters which indicates to what extent POST is carried out. Beep codes occur if the motherboard is working well or if there are issues. In most cases only one beep is heard, if the result of POST is OK and the mother board is functioning properly. In case, POST execution throws a result showing a failure, PC Support will be required to fix the issue.

POST Codes

The initial value of most of the POST codes is 00, FF or 88 by default. After the POST execution is over and error code,if any, is displayed, the value of POST codes will return back to 00,FF or 88. After the diagnostic tests are executed, a series of beeps is generated by the BIOS from from the loudspeaker attached to motherboard to indicate error codes. Invalid memory type, bad install or faulty modules could be the reason. You cannot know for sure unless you see they are plugged in correctly and you’re sure they are the good model that is working well with your current motherboard.

My 13 year old niece is obsessed with having her own children. She’s an A* student, sensible and a considerate, and I know for a fact she will never be a teenage parent (she’s hoping to be a doctor, and puts education in front of just about everything).

However – she’s pretty much obsessed with parenting and having her own children in the future. She keeps a notebook full of things she hopes her children will be like, what they will learn, where they will live, how their bedrooms will be decorated, where she will shop for them, their hobbies, meal ideas, their names, how she will chose their school, what they will look like, the books she will read to them. The notebook is pretty much crammed. She cuts pictures out of magazines and things to stick in too.
She also regularly ‘adds clothes to the basket’ on online children’s clothes shops just so she can plan their outfits, watches videos about caring for newborn babies on Youtube (and of course makes notes) and spends hours on baby message boards pretending to have her own children.

I don’t really understand it. I think it just satisfies her to have everything she wants in the future written down.

Her mother is a child-minder and there are usually young children at her daily, so it’s not like she’s lacking the chance to use her mothering instincts.

Do you think her obsession is harmful? I’m worried that she’s wasting her precious childhood planning her adulthood. She wants to grow up as fast as possible. What are your thoughts? Should her mum attempt to stop her? Thank you (and sorry about the long winded question!)
As I said, she is around young children a lot. What she is obsessed with is her future children.
She’s a gymnast, does very well in school and sees her friends a bit… although not as regularly as most teens do.

no. Once it is gone, it is gone… the files are corrupt and the magnetic discs are broken, so there is no way to recover all the data.

even the data recovery that’s very expensive wont cover all the data lost.

the reason why you can’t rate the songs is that they’re not in your hard drive.you need to burn or copy the songs into your computer to rate them.

The demand for back to school supplies is in full swing as the summer season draws to a close. Buzz Marketing Group interviewed 400 parents and students about the products they?ll buy before the start of another busy school year.

Of the 400 individuals that participated in the Back-to-School survey, 45% (175 respondents) plan to spend more than $ 400 on supplies. Clothing was listed as the top purchase by 70% of respondents followed by a laptop computer (57%). Only 22% claimed a new cell phone as the most important back to school supply, 14% an mp3 player, such as an iPod, and 9% placed vehicles as their top purchase.

The need to buy attire outweighed the want to buy electronics and a new vehicle as over half of those that participated (60%) plan to buy clothing out of necessity. ?I plan to buy clothes because I really need it for school,? said Deroll, a student from NY.

?Well, I want a new laptop because everyone has one,? said Genna, a high school student in NJ along with 16% of those surveyed or 63 respondents.

?Laptops and clothes are necessary; [a] vehicle is an indulgence,? said Deborah, a parent from NJ. Parents like Deborah still yield the power of the purse and continue to decide what their children will buy.

Buzz Marketing Group?s survey found that 65% (255) of parents still shop with their kids and 63% (246) of individuals shopped alone. Only 26% purchase supplies with their friends.

When purchasing electronics, 76% (297) of Back-to-School surveyors preferred to go to Best Buy. Corporate giant, Walmart, came in second with 45% (176) and 40% of surveyors preferred Target. Even fewer individuals listed Radio Shack (12%) and only 33 respondents (8%) chose K-Mart.

Survey participants are also utilizing the Internet for their school purchases as 161 individuals (41%) shopped on Amazon.com while only 18% would go through Ebay.com.

For non-electronic supplies, such as notebooks and backpacks, 81% of respondents preferred Walmart to Target (77%) and Office Depot (52%). Buying supplies online for school was listed first by 169 respondents or a little under half of surveyors (43%).

Despite the variety of options and vendors consumers can choose from, they still expect quality products. When asked what was the most important factor in purchasing a product, 79% of participants, 306 individuals, chose quality. A little over half, 57% (221) claimed price as the most important.

Brands also play a role in what supplies to buy as 41% (159) listed brands such as Apple, Samsung and Sony as a crucial factor in their purchasing decisions.

The Back-to-School survey included parents (68%), aunts and grandparents (8%) and students (34%). The level of education of the students ranged from elementary school through graduate level attendees.

As the new academic year approaches, and summer ends, it?s always interesting to see how students will spend their precious free time. Of those students interviewed, 55% (149) will spend their time with friends and with their significant other outside of the classroom. The other 49% are involved in extracurricular activities and despite the economic climate, 33% (91) will still go shopping when they aren?t in school.

?Our annual survey shows that consumers will definitely spend money this back-to-school season,? says BuzzMG CEO and founder Tina Wells. ?But the focus is definitely on what they need, not just what they want. Brands must be sure to show their true value this season.?
