Question by gambate: why cant my notebook connect to the internet when using a splitter, but can only connect trough direct line?
Another notebook using the splitter doesnt have this problem. I’m on a secured connection of my institution where I have to apply for an IP address. I can use the connection (using splitter) for few days, but now I cant. My notebook showed that it’s connected but I cant get through.
Please help.

ask the network administrator for your institution…
but before try using the troubleshoot settings that come in windows…
and also try disconnecting both computers fully up to the wall or source of the connection…

Normally when the system logs in, the routing device on the other end supplies one IP address. First on gets it and will hold it until automatic renewal or disconnected. For more than one computer you should be using a router so it can use NAT to support several computers on one connection. A splitter or switch does not have the capability of handling multiple units. Sounds like your connection from supplier uses MAC address association to IP issue. Will only allow one.
