Question by FRED: I want to buy a laptop to replace my home computer I want to spend about 500 – 700 pounds?
I have seen a fujitsu siemans amilo pa 1510 for 699, it has
amd turion 64 x2 dual core processor 1.6ghz, processor cache 256kb. ram 2048mb, 120gb hard drive, rewriter – is this a good option – i have looked at other makes and i cant find anything similar with this spec in this price range. any help gratefully accepted – im a complete novice !!!!
I need it for home and to take to work for presentations – what do you mean by larger memory / memory upgrade – is this the RAM ? when I looked at others they were half or less am I looking at the wrong thing?

Hi I had a similar problem recently when I wanted to buy my Laptop, what I did was go to dell and they literally walked me through the whole system and I ended up having a laptop built for my needs , thsi saved me a lot of money as I mostly use my machine for excell and word applications. Happy hunting
Exactly why do you want to go with a laptop? They are more expensive, break easily, don’t last as long, more expensive to repair and more expensive to expand. A desktop is a better choice.
Pretty much any computer today will be good for a complete novice. If you are doing HIGH END graphics, you will need more. If you are doing some awesome high tech games, you will need more. But in general, stick with the “saving money” part.
For desktops, I like DELL. For laptops, I like Toshiba (but Dell laptops are no good).
The only thing that I don’t like about your fujitsu, is the RAM. You should expand it right away… you might as well get 1GB. Look up this system at http://www.coastmemory.com and see. Is this yours:
