It sounds like you manually or automatically downloaded the Microsoft Media Center 11. Do this:

Click on or Click on Click on
Click on
Click on
Scroll down the list to Microsoft Media Center 11
Click on
If at any time you get a pop up stating one or more files may be connected to another program but it may not be using it, do you want to delete it any way? ALWAYS CLICK ON . It will not harm anything to leave it on the computer, but if you do delete it and it is connected you will have to unistall each of those other programs it has affected and reinstall them. Play it safe ANY TIME you see the message ALWAYS click on
Restart your computer and then try Media Center

Microsoft Media Center 11 is meant for Micorosft Vista and it will screw several things up if you download this and you are not using Vista.

Can I connect to Xbox Live with ONLY a laptop and the wireless networking adapter?

Question by BobCirca: Can I connect to Xbox Live with ONLY a laptop and the wireless networking adapter?
Well my friends got an Xbox 360 and they want Live. Unfortunately they only have laptops and no PC. But one of my other friends gave them the Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter to see if that would help. They couldn’t figure it out. So is there a way to connect to Live with only a Wireless Adapter and a laptop? If you can’t use the Wireless Adapter is it possible to use the ethernet cable? Thanks.

Answer by ryan
it is very simple…what you need to do is either

a) buy a router a good one would be a d-link DIR 655.. it has 4 LAN gigabit port as well it enables you to have wireless internet. but then you will also need a Xbox 360 Wireless network adapter.
b) if you connect your laptop to your modem in means of the USB then you would need need buy a crossover cable(find at bestbuy) and then enable ICS (Internet connection sharing) and once you connect your 360 to your laptop you will be on your way to a wonderful Xbox live experience =]

hope this helped

Network Media Players
by Michele Ficara Manganelli

Question by Ramblin Rose: How do you determine which startup programs to remove?
I read the answers to this question:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…

I followed the instructions to disable the startup programs, but there are so many–I don’t know which ones I should disable? I have never had this problem w/my PC!

I have a Toshiba laptop running Windows Vista(another thorn in my side).

Startup programs include:
TOSHIBA flash cards
TOSHIBA Power Saver
TOSHIBA Zooming Utility
Intel common user interface(there are 3)
Windows defender
Windows
Microsoft Windows media player network sharing…
Microsoft Windows Explorer
Microsoft Userinit Logon Application
Microsoft Windows host process
Adobe Acrobat
Google Desktop
Groove Monitor Utiliy
HD Audio Control Panel
Symantec Security Techology
Symantec Shared Components
Synaptics Pointing Device Driver
and one that says N/A with Startup Value: NDSTray.exe

All suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Go to this website and it will give you which files you can eliminate safely from the Startup list. Just enter the name of the file in question in the Search window and it will give you all the information you need.

Aghh, what is wrong with my laptop?

Network Media Players
by Nils Geylen

Question by Momo™: Aghh, what is wrong with my laptop?
So I’m normally really good with computers, but I think I have a virus, one that I seriously can’t figure out. I haven’t downloaded anything weird and I scan before I download. I know Vista is ridiculously unstable, but I had no choice of opting for XP.

A few days ago, it started. Windows explorer kept crashing, so I’d keep restarting it, and it stopped recently. This has happened before. I checked task manager yesterday, and it had multiple [like, 12] proccesses [svchost.exe] running. I rarely run more than one program at a time – it’s usually either notepad or Firefox, and that’s it. Along with that, was two crss.exe. When I end the top crss.exe. [which is using much less memory], bluescreen. The other says access denied [I'm admin]. Then, there’s two Windows Media Player Network things with different exe’s running, and I think one of them could be the virus.

Today I decided to try and tackle the problem again. I can only open the file location of things I’m sure are working okay, ironic. Again, multiple proccesses of the same thing, and it’s the same ones. Also, HPHC_Service.exe which I’ve never seen before. When I end that process, it starts back up again a moment later.

But the latest thing, my themes keep changing, and glitching in the process. Firefox reverted to original for 3.0, and Aero keeps going back to classic windows.

I did a virus scan yesterday and it kept bugging out, and took forever. Tried again today and it’s not spazzing, but it’s taking forever.

I need a way to get rid of whatever this is for free, because I’m broke.

Halp? And please, educated answers only.

I run Vista Home Premium on an HP Pavilion DV6000.
I update all of my programs almost daily, tyvm >.>
I use Avast 4, Spysweeper and Bitdefender.
I know it can cause problems, but I’ve never had problems with it before, and I’ve had it like this for a long time. :x
…That makes sense. But it happened before I had avast and Bitdefender the first time. I don’t think it’s that. I could try uninstalling Bitdefender because it’s kind of annoying, but I’m not getting rid of avast. :x
I know. ^^; Thank you. I’ll see if it helps.
Scanned with malwarebytes, nothing. :x Getting rid of spysweeper.
So far, not really. It runs a bit faster and that’s about it :x Firefox is being weird now, though. The tabs keep disappearing, and addons are disabled.
I’ve tried that already. =\ Didn’t work.
I’ll try that. ^^; Windows explorer hasn’t crashed in a bit, but I got a bluescreen again, out of nowhere.
Thanks, again. ^^ Looks like it’s the OS bugging out. Figures.
Lucky you. :x It was fine for a while actually, then the explorer crashes started, and this came along. And no, not yet. Mostly because I’m a freak when it comes to space. :x
Alrighty then, thanks. I’ll see if it fixes it. ^^

A virus scan is only as good as it is totally up to date. Spybot asks that you check for updates every time you use it.

Home Computer Network-Privacy?

Network Media Players
by Michele Ficara Manganelli

Question by lauren: Home Computer Network-Privacy?
I have recently moved home from college and will be using my parent’s wireless network while I live with them. I want to know if my brother (who also uses the network) can see my info (websites visited, emails, im convos) if we share a network. He’s pretty tech savy. Also, can he see the actual screen of my comp, like if I’m using a media player to watch dvds while still connected to the network? I don’t really have anything to hide, I’d just like a little privacy. Is there anything I can do to up my privacy if I don’t control the network?

Best answer:

Answer by tuscani_tiburon
It is possible for your brother to view the websites you’ve visited because all of your network traffic is probably going through a wireless router and there is a setting on the router to log all incoming and outgoing traffic. You can attempt to hide the websites you go to by going through a proxy server. Here are a few to get you started:

http://www.blackboxsearch.com/

http://www.surfundercover.com/

http://www.hidemyass.com/

http://www.invisiblesurfing.com/

You can use these sites to redirect you to sites that you actually wanted to go to and it will show up in the log that you went to “invisiblesurfing.com” instead of “someothersite.com”. as far as reading emails, im conversations or anything else like that, It would require an amount of hacking and hopefully your brother respects your privacy enough to not attempt to hack his way into your computer over the network.
