What components do people remove before they throw out their computer. My understanding is memory but I think these people removed the system board also. Is there anything else? They have taken the ports but I will not be hooking to the internet.

remove the hard drive disk and destroy it with hammer, any info that you had in there is still retreive-able if you dont. as for the exterior components or internal add-ons, save what ever you want, or you will be giving away your $$$

remove the hardrive, thats where most of your information is stored , then remove the ram , and the processor , that way no one can even use it ever again , because your bios is stored on the ram ,and the processor .

It’s according what you can still use. Harddrive, memory, cpu, sound card, video card, network card, etc. If the system is pretty old, there is probably nothing useful in it (according if you bought something fairly new in it). Check the new system to check if you could use anything). You might want to sell it if it still works, just erase the hd if you have personal info/pics on it.

I will typically reformat the hard drive so no data is easily found(if you are tossing the PC out as trash). Not sure if your were concerned security wise? As ar as saving hardware to rebuild a PC, I sometimes save the hard drive and video card if I’m rebuilding a PC for basic office use. If its for myself, or a friend, I don’t want to bog down the PC with a single slow part, so I donate the entire PC to charity.
