Problem by john o: How can plugging a different power supply into ibm laptop computer hurt it(much less than the orig electricity rating)?
i plugged a twelve v electrical power supply into my ibm 600 laptop by error(genuine is 16v) then the laptop computer wouldnt swap on,why?
How do i rectify the issue?
John
I have subsequently plugged the genuine psu back again into the laptop(psu tested functioning)and the laptop doesnt switch on or do something at all.
I plugged a12 dc psu with a quite reduced electricity rating(ie a vehicle mobile cellphone charger)

The dilemma is most likely that your computer is simply not getting enough electrical power to boot all the hardware. Attempt plugging it into a power supply unit that can offer the necessary wattage, with an adapter that can offer the needed voltage.

First of all, the power supply for a laptop is either AC or DC if you plugged in the wrong power supply then you have blown the diodes inside, maybe resisters too…This will need shop assistance, I hope you have still got a warranty on it…
There is nothing you can do personally unless you know anything about electronics…
Sorry I couldn’t be of more assistance..

Try removing the battery, then plugging in the external power supply (the correct one). It should work without the battery, if not you are hosed.

If you plugged in a 12v AC power supply where a 16v DC power supply should be, then you hosed a lot of stuff. It needs to be repaired or trashed – it might not be worth the cost of repair.

If you plugged in a 12v DC where a 16v DC should have been, then there shouldn’t have been a problem – the battery would have run the laptop, but it wouldn’t charge the battery.
