Question by Me: Vista OEM?
I am building my first pc and I want to get vista ultimate 64bit and put it on a brand new hard drive so I went to newegg to check it out and found “Microsoft Windows Vista 64-Bit Ultimate for System Builders 3 Pack DVD – OEM” Is this what I want to use? Also what is OEM?
Sorry I meant to post the single pack instead of 3 pack

Well that will get you 3 copies of what you want.
OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer
This disk is meant to be sold only with a new computer as a package.

    OEM just means it’s liscenced to the mainboard in the machine and not the user. It’s the version that system builders buy to pre-install on a computer before they sell it. It normally doesn’t come with a manual or any support from microsoft (It includes windows update and free support services like the knowledgebase but not direct support from microsoft). Problem with an OEM version is if you replace the mainboard you’re going to find it hard to reactivate vista as the serial information of the mainboard is part of the activation process vista uses with the microsoft servers
