Query by I like turtles: Is there any way i can use my outdated personal computer as some thing committed to laptop or computer protection?
I have an previous laptop computer, is it doable to use it as a filter or anything at all to cease malware or like a safety centre or something cool i can do with it????
The 1st individual to comment would seem to think the old computer is awful, its not great but its not awful, 768mb ram, i can upgrade the hd aswell if required to.

any antivirus will run actually sluggish on it
cool issue is to give it away to a non-profit or other needy places

Install something like M0n0wall ( http://m0n0.ch ), set it up,
and then it can be used as a firewall.

It’s kinda complicated to install and set it up, so be sure to read its documentation thoroughly and Google if you can’t find something on the documentation (there are lots of m0n0wall tutorials out there).

    Hope this helps :)

Yep, 2nd answer is correct. Its more than adequate to run as a firewall.

Yep, as in the other answer, the computer should be more than adequate for installing a firewall distribution like monowall, ClearOS, pfSense etc. I’d say pfSense personally. You will likely need another network card for the PC (one from the modem to the PC, then one out of the PC to your other computers or a switch).

Look into the freeware “Astaro” gateway.
Runs under Linux, but does need some hardware minimums:
