Need far more details I am afraid… Download CPU-Z from http://www.cpuid.com/obtain/cpu-z-140.zip . When you run this program it will present info about your current.. CPU, Motherboard, Ram. Right after you have obtained this data you will require to search for the motherboard product range… Update your question with it and I shall let you know if it can utilise a dual core.

Hope this assists you out o)

Wtf u on about?

Are you genuinely attempting to inform me that all these retailers that offer cpu’s should not.. due to the fact “you can’t just set a new one particular in”

And to the reply about socket sort… Yes thats proper, but rather of opening up your computer just use cpu-z and discover motherboard serial number… then google it.

You need to know what type of socket you have and the replacement must be compatible with that socket, this is usually stamped ont he plactic just around the chip.

as previously mentioned its hard to say without more detailed specs, however at a glance i beleive the pentium 4 uses a socket 478 motherboard were as the intel core 2 duo processor requires a socket lga775,so this upgrade wouldnt be possible
some later pentium 4 processors however did use the socket lga775 so you may be in luck, download the diagnostic program “sisoft sandra lite” from http://www.sisoftware.net/index.html?dir=&location=downandbuy&langx=en&a=,this will give you all the information you need to know about your p.c,s processor, motherboard, graphics card and basically anything you need to know about your p.c
click on the computer overview section and you should be able to find your motherboards socket their,if not go to the mainboard section,it will be there
every person i know who,s upgraded to a intel core 2 duo has also changed their motherboard, this is because most of the motherboards made more than 2 to 3 years ago cant support the core 2 duo processors, even with a bios update
if you wish to upgarde to a core 2 duo processor you are best to get a new motherboard, which may mean getting new ram(memory)aswell, however the final product will blow your socks off,the core 2 duo makes the pentium 4 look like a old pentium 2
    any problems let me know
    good luck mate!
