Question by rwthwyn: Windows security requires a password when connecting to another computer … yet there isn’t one?
I have two computers on a small office wireless network. Both can connect to the internet without problems. However, I am unable to access the files on one computer from another.
The computer FROM which I am wanting to connect runs Windows 7 Home Premium. And the computer that holds the files I wish to access runs Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3.
Both computers are on the same workgroup: WORKGROUP. Both computers have unique names.
The Windows 7 computer is called User-PC and the XP computer is called Stealthy. Daft name, but I tried the Network troubleshooter on the XP machine and it suggested trying a name that was different from any other computer … first name that came to me.
When I click on Network on the Windows 7 computer, STEALTHY is visible. However, when I double-click on it, Windows Security pops up with a message: Enter Network Password. However, no password for either computer has ever been set.
In addition, I have been into advanced network settings on the Windows 7 computer and made sure password protection is off.
Can anyone help?
Richie’s just asked if I shared out the drive. I’m afraid I don’t know what this means nor how to do it. I assume he means did I share out the drive on the XP machine. The files I am trying to access are in the shared folder. Does that help answer the question?

Did you share out the drive?
If you have not shared anything from the computer you want to see, or you do not have a user account on that computer that a person on the other computer can log into, there is nothing to see on the other computer.
From the computer you want to access, right click on a folder or file you want to share and there will be something there about whether you want to share it and how.
