After extensively researching all anti-virus products I can say the best anti-virus is Kaspersky, though NOD32 is better for computer experts. Kaspersky is the best all-round anti-virus program. NOD32 runs faster and has less software conflicts but as a consequence the user interface is difficult to use.

The most popular free anti-virus programs (AVG and Avast) have poor detection rates (82.82%, 87.46% respectively). Norton is notoriously bloated and takes forever to perform full systems scans.

It has been proven ESET NOD32 and Kaspersky are better than the best sellers Norton and McAfee (see the consumersearch source for reviews of the top anti-virus products). See recent tests for yourself at av-comparatives.org.

Trend Micro Antivirus is a viable alternative if you’re having a lot of trouble with software conflicts. Trend Micro rounds out the top three.

I havent had any problems using Avira Antivir or Avast!, in fact, they’ve worked great. They detect great and dont make your computer lag.

I also use windows defender for anti spyware, and that works great too.

It depends on the type of security software you need and what you need it for.

For starters, in terms of security software, there are many different categories, like firewalls, virus checkers, adware removers, and many more.

And then within each category, there are different versions that achieve different functions (all for different prices), you need to work out what you need it for, and then decide which products suits your requirements.

For example, you might want a firewall that is requires little user interaction while your neighbour wants a firewall with more complex settings, so immediately you both would install different products.

The best way to find out what is best for you is to research the available brands of software, then see if your local computer shop can demonstrate your best picks. (If they don’t want to show a particular product, try another shop)

The best sites to start research are someone like http://www.cnet.com or http://www.zdnet.com, but a simple google search can also find other good sites. Also, check the latest computer magazines for reviews of different software packages.

Avast aint that poor at detection as it has saved my bacon on many occassions and doesnt slow your computer down
