Do social networking websites have a negative effect on society?

I’m going to write an editorial on social-networking sites such as
Facebook and Twitter. My opinion is that they distract teens from
school and can even be dangerous. What is your opinion on these
socializing websites and why?

they take the personal aspect out of life. it allows people to have a coversation with multiple people at once without even looking at anyones face

I think so… it is actually DE-PERSONALIZING. People are allowed to be much much faker, and calculate everything they communicate and show (pictures) to others. I hate that shit it is so trendy and for people who try to hard.

I love when ppl brag about how many “online” buddies they got haha so gay. But seriously, it has negative effects and allows ppl to completely interact within their comfort zones. This is true.

I would agree with your point in a way. Instead of an alive nice way of socializing, they become a popularity contest. Some best friends misunderstand each other through virtual comments and become enemies. On the other hand, maybe it has more to do with the way people themselves use these websites.

My opinion is that they do more good than bad. Yes, they have some positive aspects like reconnecting friends but for the most part I don’t think they have a whole lot of benefits compared to all the teens who get distracted by Facebook or get abducted after meeting a stranger on MySpace.
